If interested in working as a Personal Assistant (PA) and would like to be placed on RAMP’s PA list please see the guidelines below.
RAMP is not the employer. PA’s report to and work for the Consumer who are most often paid by the State of Illinois Department of Rehab Services (DRS). In some circumstances the consumer may be self-paying for services.
Interested individuals need to come into the RAMP office to complete an Information Data Sheet (IDS).
A state ID or valid Driver’s License and Social Security card are required to fill out the IDS.
Potential PA’s must pay a $15 non-refundable fee for a criminal background check. (Only cash or money orders will be accepted). If approved, the individual will be invited to a mandatory unpaid PA Orientation. After completing the orientation, the individual will need to pass a written test. Potential PA’s have two months to complete the PA Orientation and pass the test. After the above requirements are met, the PA’s name is added to the PA Referral List.
RAMP does not give PA’s a list of Consumers to call nor does RAMP find a job for the PA. RAMP simply places the PA’s name on a referral list that is given to active RAMP consumers who are looking for PA’s. Consumers decide who to call.
This is not guaranteed employment. Some PA’s receive a call right away, some do not.
Once on the PA referral list, PA’s must actively communicate with Consumers and must call the RAMP office between the 1st and 5th of each and every month to remain on the PA Referral List. IMPORTANT NOTE: PA’s will be removed from the list for one year after the second failure to call in for the month.
